Here is a sample platter of some save-the-date magnets for the lovely Mike and Allie. They haven’t picked one or even finalized this is the info. we want to be included, but wanted to share some initial layouts. I love her soft colors she will be using. Very romantic, feminine and modern. Not sure which one is my favorite; what is yours?
Brides- magnets and save-the-dates for holiday (right around the corner) are simple and super easy. Contact us today if interested in sending a personalized, unique snail mail treat to family and friends! -Missy

oh. my. beautiful! Let me begin by being honest- there are too many to choose from to blog, so please- just go to Facebook and view them all. I couldn’t decide. There are over 50 photos of Mike and Allie there. I almost sort of felt like I was in a Calvin Klein ad for a minute or two as I browsed which ones I wanted to use. Mike and Allie are sweet, kind, funny- everything! We met them through friends of friends who attend University of Iowa in dental school. So yes, they also come equipped with brains on top of beauty. Allie was describing to me the colors of hydrangeas are what they will use for the wedding day (romantic!) and all the plans they had. We are excited for their cozy September 2010 wedding.
But seriously- you can view more on Facebook; just type in the search engine: James Drescher Photography. Enjoy tonight’s post! -Missy

Beautiful family, huh? They are just as sweet as they look! We met Lyndsie through the wedding vendor world a while back and were privileged to document little baby Braden on his six month mark. Lyndsie is the owner of the successful chic reception site Bella Sala and Hugs and Kisses (XOXO) Bridal Boutique. So before I begin showing off her lovely family photos, let me begin with a shout out to the brides stopping by today to visit the website if you haven’t booked a reception site or done your dress shopping. The girls of Bella Sala are young, trendy, fun- they are amazing! Visit them on the web:

(below): cutest. baby. smirk. ever!! (I’m sure he’s given Mommy this little face quite a few times if he’s in trouble. It made me melt right there and I’m just the photography assistant.)

(Love this shot below, she’s got everyone working on her. I don’t think the boys realize how much preparation we do!)

Laura decided to not see her groom previous to the ceremony, so we spend a nice chunk of time in the cozy “getting ready” room where the girls got to sip champagne, do make up and relax by the toasty fireplace! That’s right, I said fireplace. We were surprised for Oct. 3rd how much chill was in the air. Of course, the bride came prepared with a beautiful cashmere scarf to keep her warm during the windy formals. Adrian and Laura had a small ceremony adorned with all the fall colors and we loved their “unity” section of the ceremony. Adrian and Laura both wrote letters to one another, placed them into a wooden box along with a bottle of wine and then the box was nailed shut. The couple is to keep the box stashed away for 25 years or if they need any guidance or reassurance along the marriage path, they can open the box, read the letters over a glass of wine and solve whatever conflict they need. Isn’t that a cute alternative to a unity candle? Loved this idea. Laura had gerber daisies, pumpkins and chocolate everywhere, setting a romantic and autumn wedding. Both sets of parents were a delight to work with and had a very genuine love and pride on the day. Very cute. Adrian and Laura were fun, charming and easy going. What a lovely combo to work with. Congrats to you two!

Do you recognize this beautiful couple below? Maybe you’ve seen Cortney at a bridal expo or Chad hanging on our studio walls. This is because they were our first wedding back in the day (may I add they chose California for the ceremony? We are lucky people). The circle is in full swing as they were back to the studio for baby portraits! It was an absolute delight. Ryer is a sweet little peanut who I wanted to squeeze the whole time but had to wait my turn until the shoot was over. She is so tiny and cuddly! What a beautiful baby- that hair, her glowing skin, those eyes! Chad and Cortney are amazing parents who make it look effortless. Chad is very creative himself as he works with graphics and video production so this was an honor to have the responsibility of Ryer’s first photos. Hope you all enjoy your baby fix for the week, I know I sure did! -Missy

Short and sweet little post today. James and I finished up this little project last week in the front entryway of the studio. Every time we have furnished a room we’ve found a continuous style we always follow. We always like modern contemporary decor but then always need to incorporate some elements of nature to balance everything out. I painted the sign with acrylic then toned it down with matte medium finish. James installed the cubes (perfectly level- I am so impressed, thanks J!) Lastly we put out some of our old cameras collected through time (some are from grandparents, 80’s and more.) The top white cube has a camera from my late aunt who we miss dearly. It is so awesome we have a piece of her within the artwork. Tomorrow I am posted the cutest little baby girl with jet black hair so get ready because your heart is going to melt. Stay tuned and stay warm!

Abby and Jesse were so so easy to work with. I don’t think I caught Jesse without a smile even for a second throughout the whole day. The church was adorned by beautiful deep purple mums and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. Abby chose rich fall colors from shades of emerald to purples and pinks and sparkles in between. I especially loved the bling on her bouquet- jewels and sparkles stuffed inside the flowers and even the the word “love” spelled out in gems on the leaves. So cute. Jesse’s family runs a landscaping company so outside formals couldn’t have been any easier. It was wonderful they incorporated the personalization of the family business. The reception was (of course) sparkles! sparkles! Abby was such a “girly” bride and it was so cute. (And did I mention the chocolate covered raspberries that were del-i-cious!) A slideshow played with photos of their dance routines from the mother of the bride’s dance studio and tons of memories from the two. As if the fairy tale wedding couldn’t have gotten better- Jesse got a hold of the mic and sang to Abby as they held hands and laughed. It was perfect. We wish you two the best A + J- you are both so sweet and easy going- you were made for one another!

Kristen and Brandon were so much fun to work with! I told Kristen we should head over to Lake McBride in North Liberty and my mistake for not even reminding them to wear hiking shoes! We tugged the couple through the grass, weeds, bugs and posed them on top of the highest rock we could find (over the water) but through it all not a peep of complaints (even in their slippery flip flops). They happily gave kisses and snuggles both on our cue and off. I loved hearing all the cute details of their wedding- such as the bright sunshine yellow, hot pinks and neon blues they plan to splash throughout the attire and decor as well as incorporating a Mariachi band and special Mexican wedding traditions. The couple also brought back my puppy fever when they told us all about their little baby bulldog! I say we won’t hesitate if there is a puppy ring bearer- especially a bulldog.
The bride will forever be a Hawkeye while the groom was an Indiana fan. We will be thinking of them on Halloween when Indiana is here at Kinnick. The two were so very playful and kind towards one another and I look forward to a very festive, personalized spring wedding in April. Congrats to K + B!

This was a much needed post. We really didn’t have the right approach to getting to you brides and grooms a sample of the album without you physically being here to flip through one. I’ve been complaining to James about how I need to find some way to make this feasible. What a lovely surprise I came home to when James told me tonight he photographed some recent albums I designed. I was so thankful he began this project for me! Please do feel free to contact us if you have further questions- but I am anticipating our photos can answer some of your album questions. We plan to also get some shots of our proof boxes and other projects in the near future. Please enjoy!
As Christmas is right around the corner- many brides have began placing orders for albums to have them designed and published in time to give to mom and dad for Christmas gifts. If this sounds like a fabulous idea- please e-mail me and I will get you set up and we will be on the fast road to getting your album put together. Keep in mind the great deal on albums is: when you order your wedding album, the second album is always 25% off and the third is 50% off! This is a great personalized Christmas gift that mom and dad will love and cherish for forever. -Missy

Hello all brides, grooms, friends, family and all! I am pretty giddy right now about many things. First up- James and I just decided on our final picks of our top three bridal expos we are attending this year! And let me tell you- the shows are going to be superb. We are giving away so many freebees, great deals, discounts and have so many new surprises for you. I can hardly contain my excitement. Mark your calendars for: November 29th in Des Moines, January 10th in Cedar Rapids and February 21st in Iowa City. More details will be announced later.
My next big thing I need to tell you is just a story. So- James and I attended a photo workshop in West Des Moines last week where we were able to view some really cool new equipment, software and fun things and products to spoil you brides with. Anyway- at the end of the night a handful of door prizes were distributed and as the two big graphic design prizes were already issued (no winner here) I began to give up hope and started to doodle in my notepad half listening…when I heard “Missy Drescher!” I jumped up and down before it had sank in for me that I was the BIG winner of the all inclusive trip to Las Vegas for the annual Wedding and Portrait Photographers International convention! Viva Las Vegas! We were absolutely thrilled! So I would like to take some time out to say thank you to David Ziser for not only an amazing show but to thank you for this outstanding prize and opportunity.
I saved the best for last. As you can see- we changed some things around on the blog. How do you like it? We are really happy with the new fonts and little fine tunes. Brown Wing Studio designed this for us in a snap. Robin came over to the studio, took notes and a day later the blog was up and running. She is amazing and so professional. She is doing some more web design work for us that you will see in the near future- but I needed to tell you if you are looking for a great web designer loaded with creativity at an affordable rate- Robin is your go to girl. Please send all your web design needs over to her- you will be so pleased. Here is her website:

Since I’m somewhat on a message board roll here with all kinds of notes- I should remind you now we are running some great specials for family portraits. It is that time of year where the leaves are starting to change soon. So book your family session soon just in time to get your photos back for Christmas gift and Christmas cards. December is right around the corner. Plan your session wisely so you don’t run into crunch time come Christmas. We’d love to lend our creativity for some lovely Christmas gifts for you and your family. -Missy
